I’ve Got Mice, They’re Multiplying…and I’m Losing Control

Mouse in the house. Olivia Newton-John & John Travolta in Grease.

Have you ever found one mouse in your house and you think, “that’s OK”. Did you ever consider there were more???

You know the saying “multiply like rabbits?” Well, we think it should be “multiply like mice”. These little guys reach sexual maturity at 4-6 weeks of age. With a short gestation period of just about three weeks, one mouse can give birth to 5-6 babies. A typical female mouse can birth between 5 & 10 litters per year. She can mate immediately after giving birth, meaning mice can birth a second litter in as little as 25 days after the first. Wow, that is insane!

Even worse, living indoors enhances their capabilities, since they can then breed all year long. The cycle continues until the mouse dies. Now, look at the multiplication rate above and you’ll quickly realize you might be hosting quite a few more guests than you bargained for by the end of the year.

How Do You Stop Mice From Multiplying?

  • Make sure your floors are swept, mopped and free of crumbs
  • Store all food in airtight containers
  • Seal up any holes, cracks or crevices in and around your home
  • Keep trash in a covered container and take it out on a regular basis. Make sure outside trash can lids fit tightly and securely with no holes or other entry points.

Once you find one mouse in your house – the mice are in to stay. The most efficient way to get rid of them is to hire a pest control company. Exclusion work and bait stations are the main two ways Pestcheck reduces and manages mice populations. Owner and Operator, Stephen Scott, explains that “the idea is always to determine their method of entry.” Using our experience to solve mice problems is what we do every day.  Call us or email us and take back control of your home.
