Mice in Your Car

A mouse sitting on top of a car tyre. Mice in the car

Chilly days and nights prompt rodents, especially mice, to seek warmth – often under the hoods of cars. Mice in your car are more than just a nuisance, they can be dangerous. When they take up residence in your car, they start chewing on wires, hoses, plastic, and other critical car parts. And don’t forget rodents love the plant-based biodegradable materials car makers use in order to reduce waste.

Let’s take a look at some practical steps to reduce the risk of unwanted passengers in your car:

  • Remove all food from your car. Make sure pet food and bird seed is out of reach of rodents.
  • Eliminate possible hiding places by cutting down overgrown bushes.  Keep your garage and garden tidy.
  • Try leaving the car hood open. The little critters will not be so interested in setting up home in when your engine is exposed.
  • Wrap your wires with rodent-deterrent tape.  Ask you local mechanical where you can purchase this.
  • If you have a garage or other vehicle-appropriate shelter, use it. Although squirrels, mice and other small animals flourish in rural areas, they are common everywhere. Save time and money by taking the extra time to park your car in a sheltered area.
  • Honk your horn before you start the engine. Making loud noises will help get rid of mice in the car, along with cats and other animals, by scaring them away.

If you are having rodent problems around your car, you are probably going to have a rodent problem in your home. Give us a call on (778) 903-7378.
