Wasps…STING!

A wasp sting on skin

It is the end of summer here in Vancouver. However, there are still pesky wasps flying around, acting drunk but they are very dangerous. Don’t be fooled or you might get yourself a wasp sting! Though wasps can be dangerous, not all stinging insects are bad; for example, learn about the Facts About the Asian Giant Hornet to understand the difference.

Here are 5 tips to treat an unwanted Wasp STING!

1. Wasp Sting Remedy 1: Vinegar

First of all, take a cotton ball and soak it in either apple cider vinegar or white vinegar and place it on the affected area. Apply pressure to the sting. You should feel a difference in pain and swelling within minutes.

2. Wasp Sting Remedy 2: Honey

Everyone knows Honey Bees love honey…Right??? As it turns out it, honey actually helps wasp stings. Who knew? So… take a small amount of honey and apply it to the affected area and cover with a bandage.  Honey helps with wound healing, itching and overall pain.

3. Wasp Sting Remedy 3: Garlic

As long as you love the smell of garlic, this method is for you! Crush one clove of garlic and lather the juices of the garlic on the sting and cover with a bandage.

4. Wasp Sting Remedy 4: Cucumber

Cucumbers are soooo soothing, did you know?  If you have one in the fridge, simply take one slice and rub it on the wasp sting until the pain subsides. Easy peasy!

5. Wasp Sting Remedy 5: Baking Soda And Water

This remedy can help reduce pain, itching and swelling that comes from a wasp sting. First of all, you need to create a paste using baking soda and water. Now, apply a thick layer of that paste to the affected area and cover with a bandage. Leave it on for at least 15 minutes. The paste can be re-applied as needed.

Last but not least, if you have a wasp nest in your garden, make sure you know how NOT to get rid of a wasp nest to avoid making the situation worse.
